Maui’s Nora Liotta competes in the elimination round of the Sambazon World Junior Championship on Wednesday in Oceanside, Calif. Liotta, who was sent to the elimination round with a second-place finish in the opening round Tuesday, moved on after defeating South Africa’s Anastasia Venter 10.44-7.90. She is set to take on Zoe Benedetto of Florida in the women’s round of 16 when competition resumes. On Thursday, Maui’s Jackson Bunch also remained in contention by winning his round-of-16 heat. Bunch put up a score of 15.16 to beat Australia’s Marlon Harrison (13.20). Bunch will face Australia’s Joel Vaughan in the quarterfinals.
